Restaurants, event locations, service providers and security firms
Right-wing extremists in Berlin regularly attempt to establish a permanent infrastructure by renting real estate, e.g., commercial premises.
In the past, attacks and propaganda frequently originated in these premises, which led to a climate of threat for potentially affected parties of racist and extreme right-wing violence.
However, it is not only permanent rentals of real estate by right-wing extremists that pose a major challenge. Extreme right-wing individuals also rent cars, trucks or buses for their gathering and activities or commission printing companies to print right-wing codes on their clothing.
New right-wing groups are attempting to use restaurants and event locations for training measures, meetings and assemblies. The owners of these (event) locations or the service providers are generally misled in terms of the renters’ true intentions. Attempts to rent public locations for extreme right-wing events are increasingly causing problems for local politicians and administration as well. In addition, owners of event locations as well as security firms are faced with the challenge of how to deal with physical event disruptions and strategic domination of discussions by right-wing extremists and right-wing populists.
The MBR advises key players in the private sector, administration, politics and civil society on how to deal with misuse of infrastructure and services as well as regarding event disruptions and rental attempts from the extreme right-wing spectrum. We have been working in this area for many years and our specifically developed rental agreement-template has set standards in Berlin and throughout Germany.
MBR consultations in these fields may focus on:
- Advice and support in concrete cases of misuse or rental attempts made by right-wing extremists as well as establishing contact with specific legal advisors.
- Support in the development of district-wide and cross-district strategies to prevent or deal with extreme right-wing infrastructure.
- Advice on protective measures and their implementation in event locations and for security firms as well as training courses for security agencies and bouncers to recognise extreme right-wing symbols and anti-minority attitudes.
